package icon pops up in the dock for no apparent reason

Hi All,

Every once in a while I'll see the little package icon (the brown box with a green bit on the top) pop up in the dock just to the left of the resize stripe area.

It always disappears before I can get the mouse down there to see what it is.

Are there any logs of recently installed or accessed files I could check to see what this is? As far as I can tell there's nothing I'm doing that should cause it to happen but I seem to notice it every few days.

I'm just guessing here, but maybe you have an app in the Dock that is stored as a package on disk (most apps are). If for some reason there is a slight lag in loading the app's custom icon, it is conceivable that the generic package icon might pop up in the meantime.
