Page 2 is misused.

It's described "Uncertain news and links". So why are (admittedly boring) true stories put there, such as the J2SE update?

I feel it would make more sense to either clarify Page 2's actual raison d'être - as a place for less interesting pieces of news and nonsensical rumours - or to simply make all news and rumours go onto the front page, with a comment from the poster mentioning the reliability of a source, and a tag to identify something as news, logical rumour, scurrilous rumour, nonsense, etc.

I don't feel the compartmentalisation in its current form gains anything.

The FAQs describe Page two as:

Page 2 is used for less credible rumors, news stories of lesser importance or interest, and stories with fewer supporting details.

The "actual role" of Page 2, as you put it, is exactly what is described in the FAQ. We simply didn't choose to put that longer description in the tagline on the page. It could be reworded, but it's meant to be short.

Maybe you could reword the uncertain part. To what, I don't know. Wow, this post was surprisingly unhelpful. For that, I apologize.

Um, you could just say other, but I guess that's too broad a term.
