In Word I could open "replace" and use wildcards to find all instances of

/word/

and replace it with

word.

I cannot for the life of me find a way to do this with pages. Is this just one of the differences, or am I missing something? If it's possible to do this in Pages, can someone please show me how, or direct me to a tutorial?

I had this same problem. "Find and replace" is both poorly implemented and buggy in Pages 08.

For starters it's on the edit menu under "find..." BUT .... don't click on the more prominently displayed "Show Search" above it as that (counter-intuitively) opens spotlight which is useless in this situation.

So anyway, it's:

Edit > Find ...

then click the advanced tab, then you will finally see it.

When I tried this in a moderately long document with "advanced" characters ... :) (basically carriage returns), it hangs the whole program which you will eventually have to crash out of.

The recent update fixed this so that it just takes forever, but does not crash the program. So as long as you are up to date with patches it should work.

I have never encountered this problem and I do long find and replace operations all the time.
