I want a simple TOC only one subheading.
However, if I select that specific subheading, my TOC jumps to a new page after the last subheading:

I just want it to be on one page, what am I possibly doing wrong?

I'm not sure if I understand what you are trying to do, but I would Show Invisibles, and also check the formatting of the styles you are using.

I want the TOC to be on one page. If I display these subheadings (2.1, 2.2, 3.1, 3.2) the TOC splits to the next page after 3.2.

With invisibles:

So there's "nothing" at the bottom of the first page after 3.2...
What could I check about the formatting

That is odd. Check is under the More tab, for keep-with and widow-orphan rules for the TOC styles. If nothing turns up there, I'd show the full page layout. Maybe the margins are weird.

Got it! I had to select that subheading, and turn "keep with following paragraph" in the "more" tab. Thanks for putting me in the right direction! :)
