I have a two page pages document that, when I print to save as PDF, saves as 2.2mb file. The Pages file is 8.7mb! This is my first foray into Pages. Is there anything I can do to make the PDF smaller? ...or the Pages file smaller?

Thanks in advance!

How are you PDFing?

If its in Acrobat and Distiller fiddle with some of the quality settings in there. If its through OSX default print to PDF option im not too sure how, or even if you can change any options.

For some reason PDFs generated directly in OSX (not through Acrobat) are generally much larger in Filesize. It can be in the tens of MBs sometimes.

OK. Which is 2.2 MB and which is 8.7 MB?

Pages files can become huge, especially if you use the image adjustment tools because Pages stores both the originals and the altered versions of the images with the file package. If you're interested in reducing the size of printed PDF files, it's not too difficult to create a ColorSync filter that does the job.

Found a Solution!

OK I had to create a user name and post this here. I am using Mac OS X 10.5.2 . I created a PDF file and it was 7.5 MB. You can decrease the file size by opening the PDF in preview then File > Save as > Quartz Filter > Reduce Size. The end file was about 360 KB !! That's a 95% reduction in file size :D. Thank god I switched from windoze.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for that, quick update, in Lion it is "Export" instead of Save As. My 102MB PDF dropped to about 1MB, so I'll see your 95% and raise it to 99%!
