Hello, new here, hoping someone might be able to help. I searched through the forums but couldn't find an answer to my question.
Basically, I'm writing my thesis, and would prefer to use Pages over Word. However, I've already hit the first major formatting roadblock with the Table of Contents.
I have Chapter Titles along with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th level headings. I'm using the "List" function to number each of these titles and headings with roman numerals. Each Chapter and Heading has its own "Style" which includes the List as part of the formatting. Everything to that point worked fine.
However the Table of Contents will not recognize the "List" numbers, so the TOC only displays the Chapter and Heading Name, omitting the corresponding roman numeral. I've tried to add the "List" function to TOC styles, however as you can't format individual lines, the roman numerals aren't accurate. This is what happens:
I. Chapter Title 1
i. 1st Heading Chapter 1
ii. 2nd Heading Chapter 1
III. Chapter Title 2
iv. 1st Heading Chapter 2
v. 2nd Heading Chapter 2
Instead of:
I. Chapter Title 1
i. 1st Heading Chapter 1
ii. 2nd Heading Chapter 1
II. Chapter Title 2
i. 1st Heading Chapter 2
ii. 2nd Heading Chapter 2
If anyone can help me figure this out, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also if anyone has had experience writing a thesis or similar document using Pages, would you let me know whether there were a lot of other issues? I have Word for Mac, and will switch now before I lose too much time if need be.
Thanks in advance.
Kate
