Pages, v5.1: Opening new document

When I open a new document (from a custom template), it always says:

Your document has changed

Some images are missing because they were deleted from the document.

The only option is to click OK

This happens even if the previous document is blank and never had content of any sort.

Is there some way to preclude this unwelcome caveat?

Corrupt Template

It appears that a custom template I created was corrupt; (re)creating it put things to right.
