Out of nowhere, Pages has stopped working properly. If Pages isn't already open, when I try to open files from the Finder, Pages just hangs on launch and stops responding. When I launch Pages on its own, it takes unusually long to launch. And some documents it just flat-out won't open. I get "[Filename] can't be opened right now. Operation not permitted." This happens with every file.

If I reboot, then sometimes it will then open one file (and the one that it said couldn't be opened now opens fine). But trying to open any other files won't work. Not even if I close the file. Sometimes it just won't open anything at all.

I've tried rebooting and I've tried reinstalling Pages. Doesn't do anything about the problem and of course, Apple's support is useless as always.

Try to open the file with another program like TextEdit, nano in Terminal, or similar. Can it open or does it give permission/access errors? If it still gives errors, the problem isn't Pages.

You can try some fix utilities like these: Onyx or Sequoia Cache Cleaner. These help clear system generated files and caches forcing them to regenerate. It also runs checks on your disks for permissions issues. Those are rare these days, but your system could sleep in the middle of an operation etc and who knows

It's more than just one file, though. None of them will work in TextEdit, I get a message that "The file isn't in the correct format." Even ones that I have been able to open in Pages won't open in TextEdit. And the files that will or won't open in Pages seem completely random. Sometimes the same file won't open at all, but then after a reboot it will open.

I'll try OnyX and see if that works.

I tried OnyX and it seems to have completely solved the problem. After running it once, Pages opened with no lag and all files are now opening up without a problem.

Thanks!
