There seems to be come confusion on whether or not the $599/699 price was a two year contract upgrade also.

Thats the full price, that means you werent eligible for an upgrade price OR if you didnt actually pay for it and you just reserved it at that price, then it could have shown you the full retail because AT&T system is messed up

I have been trying to preorder for an hour...still havent gotten through on apple.com, AT&T wont answer their phones and i've heard they are definitely sold out, and apple retail store says you cant do it instore - have to do it online.

what a mess!

Sorry the original post might have been confusing. Referring to a contract extension.

Yeah I wasn't eligible for an upgrade but I wanted the phone anyway.

Log onto AT&T WIreless > check ur eligibility > chances r, u were not and thus paid the full price.

Now that's dedication :D

Yeah my reasoning was $699 for the iPhone 4 and $299 for the iPhone 5 (factoring in selling the previous gen's jailbroken/unlocked on ebay) isn't too bad. Then I read that they might have extended the contract as well.

Yeah it still says upgrade avail 2/2011.

Did the people who used their upgrade when ordering today see that date get pushed back right away?
