Painfully slow file transfer speed on Windows Messenger for Mac?

I'm sending a large file (100mb) over Windows Messenger client for Mac and it's painfully slow. It's a lot slower than normal. Now I accept it could be an ISP issue or a routing problem but I suspect after doing a quick Google search it may be a limitation of the Mac Client. However the thread on another forum was quite old.

Is this correct? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any fixes known if it is a problem?
