I have poured over this forum regarding the SSD upgrade options for my 128GB mid2013 11 inch MBA, including using the Sintech adapter with a newer Samsung, IBM or other brand SSD drives.
I was able to find a used 256 Apple branded SSD at OWC's garage sale for just under $70. Installed it, and after rebooting from a s l o w USB 2.0 HD, I was able to clone it back to its normal self, only with double the space. Nice economy option for me. I have shifted my light (my lack of experience ) photo editing to 2 iPad pro's. the IPP models are faster, but the MBA is still useful, and has a keyboard that just feels right.
I was tempted by a current 12 inch Macbook open box for $700 at a nearby Best Buy, but the Macbook keyboard, lack of ports (compared to my old MBA) and limited trade value of the MBA pushed me to the nominal SSD upgrade. Not to mention keeping me out of the doghouse with the home CFO. With iCloud drive the 256gb ought to work for a while.
Thanks for everyone who shares their advice on these forums for upgrading models. Just wish I had purchased a 8 gb RAM version originally.
