Pairing MBP and iP4

Yes, I searched, but couldn't find what I was looking for. Trying to pair my MBP and my iP4. They "see" each other, but then I get the message that my MBP is not supported. What else do I need to do?

You can't pair them.

You can however use your iPhone as a hotspot

Really don't need it as a hotspot, and Verizon charges for that service as well. Apple to Apple products and can't pair for bluetooth file sharing??? SHAME!!!!
