I'm trying to pair my Apple Watch Series 3 to my new iPhone X and I'm stuck at the screen in the attached screen shot.

The issue is that the apple ID it's pulling up for messages is an old apple ID that was created a long time ago before Apple IDs required email addresses. And, I have converted this old apple ID to another ID that I have been successfully using for messages for over a year. Although I have all the old passwords for the old apple ID, none them are working to let me log in.

I have tried setting up the watch as a new watch and it still insists that I use this old Apple ID that will not accept any passwords, nor let me reset the password.

I don't know where it's getting this old apple ID, but it's not entered or used ANYWHERE else. Messages is signed in and working properly on my iPhone, iPad, and mac. And, it was signed in and working properly on this same watch before I had to unpair it from my iphone 7 Plus so that I could upgrade to iPhone X.

Here is some stuff I have tried to make this work:
1. I have restarted both iPhone and Apple Watch many times.
2. Signed out of message on my iPhone and then signed back in.
3. Tried setting up watch as a new watch and as a restore.
4. Signed into my apple ID and confirmed that the device was removed and then tried re adding it.

Any ideas?
