Panasonic PV-GS39 will not connect via USB to Mac

I am for the first time trying to connect my Panasonic PV-GS39 DV camcorder to my iMac (Aluminum 2.4GHz Leopard) and when I use either iMovie or iMovie HD, they do not see this camcorder. I am hooking them up with the USB cable but my only choice is the iSight Camera. The cable is fine because I use it with my digital camera so I know it works.

Why does the computer not see this camcorder at all?
 
I'd like to but my camera does not have Firewire. The camera is about 1 1/2 years old.

The firewire port (labelled "DV") is right next to the USB port.

You'll need to get yourself a firewire cable.

Wow, THANKS! I didn't even know that was a Firewire port. I just recognized the USB and went from there.

Now, is that a FW400 port? And also, can I just go and ask for a FW400 cable or are there different types of FW cable? I looked on the RadioShack site and they have something called Firewire 4-pinM/6-pinM. That loks similar. Is that it? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2260807

You need a 6 pin to 4 pin FW400 cable.
