I'm trying to install iLife '06 on Panther, but the installation always fails.

I've had a google, and I can't find much, only that iLife '06 should work fine with panther.

Anyone?

Yes, you are correct - I'm running iLife 06 on Panther and it runs just fine. Can you provide actual specifics on why it is not installing for you so that your issue can be better troubleshooted?

Well, I had iLife 06 installed perfectly fine when I was running tiger, but I've gone back to panther, because tiger seems slower on my machine.

I'm using a 15" powerbook 1ghz with 1gb of ram and a 40gb hard drive.

Everything else seems fine, but iLife refuses to complete the installation, it doesn't complain about anything at all.

Any errors at all, or does the installation just abort?

When you installed Panther did you completely format the HDD? If not, there could be remnants of your iLife 06 installation under Tiger on the machine, and perhaps the installation is failing because it thinks there is still a copy installed, there are iLife existing files causing conflicts, etc. If this is the case, do a search on your machine for all things iLife, remove them, and try again.

I did format the drive, after backing up all my stuff onto an external hard drive.
I've got shapeshifter installed, but I tried installing iLife before I installed shapeshifter, so I doubt that has anything to do with it.

This is the error (see attached).

Hmm, I'll have to think about that one then - that error is so generic is could be anything which is causing it to abort. And I've never seen that happen before, either, so I'm not sure what to make of it, especially on a fresh install like yours.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that your actual install disc has become corrupted, but I doubt that's the case since it was presumably the same disc you used to initially install iLife under Tiger.

I'm afraid I may not be able to offer much more assistance on this one. :( Hopefully someone else here will have some thoughts for ya.

6 Minutes left. It actually seems to be installing...

Edit:
Nope, no go.

I only want GarageBand!

Even if I deselect everything else, it still fails. It fails on installing the GarageBand instruments, I'm guessing. GarageBand can't find the instrument library.

As I said, good luck to ya - I wouldn't celebrate until it's actually complete though, as it seemed to crap out on you near the very end previously...

(See attached)

It was my Installation DVD after all. I downloaded a copy of it, and it installed perfectly fine, with no problems.

I'll be off to the apple store on wednesday to get a new dvd :)

Great, glad to hear you got things working! And good to know one of my theories was correct... ;)

Also just as a head's up, your post will have to be edited, as it is against Forum rules to list actual P2P sites either in name or via actual URL (yours being the former.)

Again, glad to see you got things working!
