huge panther troubles with my pismo. i first installed 10.1.4 a few months ago from 9.0, and it wouldn't run until i removed any ATI video extensions from the extensions folder. now it runs flawlessly, but i want to use 10.3.9 for the ipod. i got the full install cds for 10.3.3, and it will not even boot from the install cd. when booting in verbose mode, it says something about "ati driver is too old" or something, and then as soon as it completes loading the crash reporter, it freezes on the grey screen, in the EXACT way that 10.1.4 froze until i killed the extensions. not only that, when i installed 9.1 in order to do the firmware update, 9.1 would crash during startup while loading the ATI extensions. 9.2 as well. moving the extensions made it run perfectly. so it's the video card right?

now, i updated the firmware to 4.1.8 using 9.1 the way the apple site says to do, and everything went smoothly. i obviously can't move do anything about the extensions until osx is installed, because when i try to start the cd in "safe mode" it does a kernel panic. what else do i have to do? is there ATI firmware or drivers that i need to install in order to run 10.3? i haven't found anything on apple or ATI's site except for a driver install that needs 10.2 to run. i feel like i'm reading all these posts that allude to this problem but many more tell of pismos running perfectly in 10.3. what gives?

i realize panther is out of date, but it seems like going for the newest thing keeps getting me in trouble. please help all.
