Panther DVD player on PB G3

I recently installed Panther on an older Powerbook G3 (Lombard). Now this was from the install disk that came with my G4 Powerbook. I noticed that it did not install the DVD player app which did get installed on my G4. Any idea why? The Lombard has a built in DVD drive. Are there any 3rd party alternatives if the Panther DVD player won't work?
