I was wondering how well Panther will run on my iBook G3 500Mhz White with 576MB of RAM. I'm reformatting the laptop for my dad and he'll be primarily be using Microsoft Office on it.

Any thoughts on this would be great.

Thanks.

Duff-Man says...what is it running now...OS 9? (not that that affects how well OS X will run). I think it will run just fine for what he is doing...a little more RAM is always welcome but your over the 512 hump so even that is not too much of an issue....I'd say go for it.....oh yeah!

JUST DO IT!!!!

i was going to start a whole thread, but you've given the the perfect opportunity to say...

i just upgraded today. i've got an imac se (400mhz), running OS 9.1.2. bought OSX.3.4 off ebay for £50. seller had two sets due to buying additional macs.

my only regret is not doing it sooner. i've spent all day tweaking my preferences. it's a dream. it does 'seem' a little slower on first use, but the way it all so well intergrated and smooth is a joy. it's like i've just bought a brand new G5...

and there's so much good 3rd part software. i've just found out about Xfactor. amazing.

DO IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT :D

It runs on my 1999 400MHz G3 PowerBook with only 320MB of RAM. It'll run just fine on your iMac! Not whiz-bang fast, but very nicely.

Thank you all for the replies.

I was running OS 9.22 on my ibook before. After using Panther, classic mode just doesn't seem right anymore.
