Paralells gone really really slow and crashes

Parallels used to work well on my mac, (Ive got Paralells 5 with windows 7)

But now its so slow I almost never use it, I'm not sure how to go about fixing this.
I see that there is an upgrade to Paralells 6 for $49.99) But if its already running so slow, it may not be the answer.

Any advice greatly appreciated

I did the upgrade to 6, I dont think their claims of speed increase are really valid...seems the same a 5 to me.
