Parallels 5-Windows XP-iMac

Updated to Parallels 5 on an iMac (Intel) with 2 GB memory. Am running Windows XP. Everything was working great (and faster) but now the Windows side will not recognize CD, external HD, or printer. Once I have run Parallels and gone back to Mac side, the Mac won't recognize CD, external HD, or printer. Have to reboot for Mac to recognize everything. Think problem is with Parallels. Anyone have any ideas of what is happening. Thanks in advance.
