Parallels 7 Question

If I install Parallels 7 but don't run it, will it consume a large amount of RAM or slow my computer down? Or is it constantly running in the background. I guess does it run like any other program installed on a Mac which you can open and close?
 
It will consume RAM when you have the program open and running. It is just like other applications in that when you close it, it will stop consuming RAM.
