Hello,

I'm playing around with Ubuntu 10.04 using Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac. According to Parallels, they support OpenGL 3D acceleration under Linux. I can't however enable the desktop effects in Ubuntu 10.04. Does anyone know how to?

funkymunky,

You may have already found the answer by now, but here it is:

On a separate note - I've been TRYING to load Kubuntu on my Mac through Parallels 5.x all day today with NO luck! HOW did you do it??

I've attempted both iso files - the "regular" and the "alternate" ones, and I've burned both to disk (and checked all MD5sums - all OK) and tried to load them that way. Parallels keeps telling me my DVD/CD/file is "not ready." What am I doing wrong? I got WinXP SP3 to load no problems through Parallels but Kubuntu is killing me. Please advise how you did it, thanks!

Thanks for the linkage timflan. :D I just set up Parallels with a new virtual machine and used the Ubuntu iso (standard desktop version) as the image to boot from.

[EDIT] The link you gave has worked for me but I'm also not getting the drop shadows to windows. Any ideas?

Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac and Ubuntu 10.04?

FunkyMunky,

Thanks much for taking the time to provide the screen shots. About an hour after my post, after I kept playing with it, I actually got it to work so I'm now the proud owner of both WinXP and Kubuntu on my MacBook Pro through Parallels 5.

Apologies about the drop shadows to Windows issue you're experiencing. Try this, it seems to have worked for this guy.
