parallels installation on Mac with Snow leopard

I used parallels 3.0 with OSX leopard. When I updated to snow leopard, version 3.0 no longer works. I then purchased the upgrade and downloaded it and tried to install, but it says that I have a running or suspended XP virtual machine. However, I can't get to it to stop it from running. I have uninstalled all the XP & parallels software, I downloaded a new version of 4.0 parallels and it still gets stuck at that same point.

Does anyone have any ideas?
