Parallels network drive issue

Running Parallels 7 and Windows 7 Pro on my rMBP. Under Windows I want to use the Win Backup program and backup to an external USB drive. USB drive appears under Windows as a network drive and is assigned a drive letter but backup program does not see the USB drive. This setup works fine in Bootcamp. Is there something I need to do in Parallels to get the Windows apps to see a networked drive?
