So I just got a new haswell mbp w/ 2.6 ghz core i7, 16gb ram and the dedicated video memory(2gb)

would I be fine with parallels if I were to run games like total war 2: rome, shogun 2, and other total war games?

ArcGIS would definitely be fine since I can run it well on my old 08 penryn mbp(under bootcamp)

Yea I wouldnt do too much gaming in parallels.

Im running virtual w8.1 on fusion 6 on my late 13 rmbp 13" and if i play Civilization IV the fans go up to 6000rpm within 10 minutes, while in osx they stay below 2000 with the same settings.

ArcMAP will run just fine as long as your not looking at huge rendering files and entire countries. As i found out. Probably being dramatic though, sure it'll be fine.

Total War: Rome II is a newer game which won't probably run that well in Parallels. There shouldn't be much problem with Shogun 2 though, seeing as its an older title...

Has to be bootcamp. Anything virtualised simply doesn't have the performance. A 64 bit Windows 7 licence costs less than parallels too.
