Which one is going to work better overall with Windows Vista Home Premium on a MacBook Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo, 2.2 GHZ, 2 GBs RAM, 160 GB HD?

I am going to jack up the ram to 4 GBs by christmas.

Which one is going to work better overall, and which one is more compatible?

I would recommend trying both Fusion and Parallels and getting whichever one you like better and have more success with. Both offer free fully functional trial versions. I prefer Parallels myself. I've had no problems with Parallels and since it offers far more features than Fusion it is the better program for me. YMMV.

Is it okay to run basic 3D DirectX 8.1 games on with a MacBook?

Parallels is better for gaming, just don't expect to get great performance since neither the MacBook or virtualization is very well suited for gaming.
