So after the screen on my S5 shattered and then the watch was lost in the mail after I sent it away to get fixed I decided to get a S9 in SS Graphite. I decided on this for largely two reasons: 1) because I found a new one for $550 (with the Milanese Loop) and 2) because this is the only way to get a watch in dark grey now. Midnight is so dark that the blue accent is almost forgivable but the fact that it is still not a true black bothers me.

However, after learning just how easily the Milanese Loop can scratch the SS models and how the SS Graphite cannot be polished, I'm beginning to question my decision. For those of you who have the SS Graphite with the Milanese Loop, what has your experience been like? How careful do you need to be? Is it just a matter of always exercising caution so as to prevent the band from ever coming into contact with the watch or no? Is there really no way to remove scratches from the SS Graphite? Is there any way to have some type of protective coating applied to the watch? Are there any third party magnetic loop bands that aren't as abbrassive as Apple's?

The SB looks beautiful but based on my understanding even DLC-coated watches can be scratched. Personally, I could never justify spending that much on a watch either, especially not with the S10 right around the corner. Is anyone hopeful that Apple will reintroduce Space Grey for the S10? Part of me thinks if I don't like the Midnight and I'm paranoid about the SS Graphite maybe I should have just opted for the Silver (in Aluminium). I think the Silver with the Cypress Sport Loop would look good. Green is my favorite color so if Midnight was Emerald or something similarly named with subtle hues of green I would have easily opted for that.

Does anyone have the SS Graphite with the Cypress Sport Loop? I wonder how that combo would look. I really like the Evergeen Magnetic Link (tried that one out at the Apple Store earlier) but all of the reviews I've read said that the band constantly becomes loose throughout the day and is hard to keep clean.

Anyway, is my paranoia with the SS Graphite justified or no? After the misfortune with my last watch, I intend to get AppleCare on my new watch but I would assume cosmetic damages aren't covered. My new watch hasn't even arrived yet but I'm already thinking about whether I'll keep it. On a final note, if I do keep the watch, I'd like to get a sticker - I've seen them on Etsy - to cover what I consider the unsightly red ring on the digital crown. I'd be curious to hear whether this is something that anyone else has ever pursued.

The graphite is pretty scratch resistant but the graphite Milanese loop will scratch it if letting it rub against the watch when putting on & taking off.
That said, I never marked mine as I was careful and used a stand when charging. It wasn't difficult at all.

The Milanese loop will scratch the watch. It's a matter of time. I've experienced it on multiple watches already. I'd recommend switching to a different band.

If you want the milanese loop you have to accept that, at some point, it will scratches your watch.

Thanks. I like the milsanese loop but will probably end up selling it. I like to think that I'm careful with my stuff but all it takes is one wrong move, one slip up, that one time when I'm not thinking for something to happen. Regardless, I would constantly feel paranoid about regularly using it.

I got my series 9 SS On Amazon at a great deal, including a Milanese band and AppleCare. Although I do like the look of the Milanese, and the ability of being able to remove fine scratches on a stainless steel watch with the Cape Cod cloth, after reading about other user’s Experience with the band causing scratches have decided not to use the band. It’s still brand new unsealed from the box, but that’s OK as I’m an Apple Watch band collector.
