This morning i woke up and discovered that the bottom 20% of screen would not work. it would not register that i was touching it at all. The 2 times i could get to home screen all the icons in main window worked fine . Only thing that didn't work was the bottom 4 icons and slide scroll button.

I rushed down to apple store. i hadn't bought applecare yet, but warranty is good till jun 28th.

The guy took a look at it for 30 secs and said it is a hardware issue that he has seen just a few times. he immediately gave me a new iphone.

I was so happy . thank god this didn't happen after one-year warranty expired.

Since it was new I thought i had a fresh start on warranty. i checked warranty status with new serial number and my original warranty is still in effect for this one.

Guess i'll be buying applecare.

This experience has got me thinking about its life span.

mac genius made a comment to me that was interesting. I asked him why iphone applecare only adds one year? He said the at&t phone contract is for 2 years, and that's how long apple expects or wants your phone to last. I guess after that they could care less or are betting iphones 16 months from now will be so much better you won't want your current iphone.
