partition error help

I had 2 partitons and i wanted to install XP using boot camp, of course i have to make my hard disk 1 partition, so i deleted the second partition and resized my 1st partition, when i try to resize 1st partition i get this error:

filesystem verify and repair failed

I think you need to insert your OS X DVD and reboot holding the option key. Use Disk Utility from the DVD and do your thing. Though, I've used a Linux live CD in the past to fix partitions. Much easier.
