Partition external hard drive for both Mac & PC

Hi, recently I got an external hard drive (Iomega desktop, 500 GB), and was wondering if it was possible to use this single external drive on both a Mac and PC platform. I run Windows Vista on Boot Camp and want to have this hard drive so that I can place data on it from both Mac OS X and Vista.

I did a search for answers here but I didn't find much specific stuff, as it was speaking mostly about starting from scratch. My external hard drive as of now has about 30 GB of stuff backed up for Mac OS X. I created a separate partition on the drive via Disk Utility, but I have no idea what to do beyond that.

Print & read the first one thoroughly, and follow it to the letter. 99% of the problems folks encounter is because they just didn't RTFM.
