(x-post from iMac section, carelessly placed the original thread)
I am trying to create a media partition to share with another [linux] OS on my machine. But, when using Disk Utility to split my main (mac) partition, i get stuck at "preparing to partition disk." I verified my disk and it is all good. And here is my partition table (attempting to split disk0s2):
disk0s4 - boot loader
disk0s5 - ext2
disk0s6/7 - ext4
I should note that my current partition table was made by shrinking disk0s2 in Disk Utility, and using cgdisk to set up the linux partitions out of the free space. I am considering using diskutil (or even cgdisk) to make this work if necessary. But as i understand, diskutil split and diskutil partition will wipe the partition (I have plenty of backups though, just in case).
So, if anyone knows how to get past "preparing to partition disk" that would be awesome. If not, i want to make sure diskutil split/partition will not interfere with my other partitions, becuase I just spent a few days installing a new distribution.
I am running a Macbook Pro 8.1 with OSx version 10.9.1 dual booting with Arch linux using rEFIt.
