My company bought me a new MBP, and along with that they installed device management software. I really do not want them having access to the data on it. I’m not doing anything illegal, but I’d like to sync my iMessages and cloud iCloud data to it. Needless to say I don’t want my employer reading that.

I was thinking I could partition my hard drive and install High Sierra on it thus providing a wall from the other partition with the device management software on it. Does that actually prevent software on another partition from reading from another, and if not, can anything be done?
 
Your company bought it for you? Pretty sure it’s company property (correct me if I’m wrong) and that they get to decide what you can do on it.

Check with your IT department.
 
It would be like an entirely separate computer and it would not have anything to do with your main work partition.

Whether you should do that or not, well, that is up to you (and your company policy). I am guessing that device management software is something like Group Policy in the Windows world, meaning, they control what is installed on the computer.

You might also find that your new partition and OS will not be allowed to connect to your company network. Everything like that was locked down where I used to work.

I do not know how liberal thinking your company might be, but if they want to control what is on the Mac, I would be very careful how you move forward.
