Hi all,

This is my first new post (have replied to others) and I just want to say that this community has been invaluable for me as I prepare for the switch.

I'm going to be a proud new owner of a MBP as soon as the new ones are announced and I can't wait.

I've done my research and have the following strategy for my drives and formats. My question is, do you think my strategy is a good one? It's not the kind of thing that can be easily changed so I was looking for some advice. For the purposes of this post, assume my internal drive is 200 gigs and my external 400 gigs.

On the internal drive drive I will have a 150 gig partition formatted HFS+ for OS X and a 50 gig partition formatted NTFS for Boot Camp. On my external I will have 3 partitions: A 150 gig partition in HFS+ for backup of my internal, a 50 gig partition in NTFS for backup of my internal, and a 200 gig partition in NTFS for data for use when working in both OS X and Windows (using NTFS-3g for write access to this partition when in OS X).

My concerns are:
1. reliability of NTFS-3g - can I be certain to be able to write from OS X to the 200 gig NTFS partition?
2. The lack of backup for the 200 gig NTFS partition - I guess this can't be taken care off without purchasing yet another external drive.

A more general question I have is why everyone is so down on FAT32 and loving NTFS. Other than the 4 gig/file limit (which is a serious limitation indeed), I can't find definitive reasoning against FAT32. And if I was to forgo NTFS for FAT32, I wouldn't need to use NTFS-3g.

Anyways, thanks for the advice guys.
