Partitioning drive affects performance?

I was considering getting a retina macbook pro with a 2.9Ghz i7 processor and I wanted to setup either an ubuntu/windows partition. I was wondering how much the partition affects the overall performance of the laptop? Does it slow down by a considerable amount?

Performance is unaffected if you partition the drive into smaller volumes, i.e., split in two.
