I am new to Macs. I have an older iMac 2008 2.4ghz 4gb with OSX Mavericks. I use a WD passport ultra 2TB as a time capsule. I wish I had partitioned it. I would like to put the files to The Complete National Geographic in a partition. For me 2Tb is way more room than I need for time capsule. My plan is to copy the backups onto another drive, then partition it and transfer them back on the newly partitioned drive. Then install the files to the Complete National Geographic on another partition.

Any suggestions?

I don't see any problems with that.

Just leave enough room on the "backup partition" to accomodate "future expansion"...
