Hi,

If I want to back-up my Vista machines and Mac machines, I know I have to create an NTFS partition to go with my HFS one for the Mac.

If I partition the external HDD in Disk Utility, I get the horrible feeling it will format ALL the external drive to do it..... is this true?

Thanks.

Yes, it will format all of the information on the external hard drive. Back up the external hard drive before you format and afterwards put your data back on.

Oh nuts :( I can't back it up (in any case, it's only holding 30.3GB of data from my MacBook after it's first back up so it'd only be a case of plugging it back in after partitioning).

Thanks :)

ooo yeah just something I forgot to add...

If I have a Windows and OS X partition on the external drive, will Vista only see the Windows partition when I plug it in, and will OS X only see the HFS partition when I plug it in?

Thanks again.
