Partitioning HDD

Using disk utility i wanted to create another partition on my macbook's hard drive, but it's been doing it for the past 20 minutes now, and shows no signs of completion, when i did it with boot camp before it took no more than 5 minutes.

Should i be worried about corrupting the data on my hard drive if all the partitions have messed up?

You shouldn't be worried if you backed up all your data before re-configuring your partitions.

Yeah but i didn't, I'll do that now then fingers crossed when i restart
