Am getting ready to upgrade from Tiger 10.4.11 to Leopard. Have heard that Time Machine recommends backing up to its own drive w/o partition. I was looking to partition a lacie or WD portable to use half for TM backups and half for digital media storage. Is that recommended or not? Any info would be much appreciated!

Thx,

that will work fine, it's what I do and have had no problems at all

I think the recommendation refers more to not using a second partition on the same drive that the data you are backing up is on

ahh, ok. so, for example, my MacBook HD can not be partitioned but the external HD that Time Machine backs up to can be partitioned?

well, both CAN be partitioned, with one side going to TM, but if you use the 2nd partition on your internal drive to backup your boot partition, and the HD fails, what was the point? :D
