Has anyone encountered this since iOS 16.0.2?

Since updating to iOS 16.0.2, I noticed I had to use my passcode in the morning after charging overnight.

I learned from a call this morning to Apple Support that as of iOS 16.0.2, the pass code must be used if the device hasn't been unlocked via Face ID in the past four hours.

This is unacceptable.

There needs to be a way to adjust the amount of time. My personal minimum is eight hours because my routine is to charge the phone overnight and leave the house with a full charge.

Here’s the Link I was given: About Face ID advanced technology - Apple Support: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208108

Here's the pertinent language from the Article:

To use Face ID, you must set up a passcode on your device. You must enter your passcode for additional security validation when:

  • The device has just been turned on or restarted.
  • The device hasn’t been unlocked for more than 48 hours.
  • The passcode hasn’t been used to unlock the device in the last six and a half days and Face ID hasn't unlocked the device in the last 4 hours.

Notice it says "and" instead of "and/or" or "or." Apple Support Agent Shaniya says it should say "or."

If what you are told is true, I don't see the problem. After your phone is charged and you ready to leave, input the passcode if needed.

I have had to enter my passcode more with iOS 16. It's not really a big deal to me.

That page hasn’t been updated since April. If there were changes, it would have been documented somewhere. The support person you contacted is most likely wrong, and it should be ‘and’ and not ‘or’.

I agree, but I'm now having to use passcode instead of Face ID - as I have for years. I did an Apple Bug Report via apple.com/feedback.

After you input your passcode, FaceID ability returns. Even before iOS 16, we couldn't unlock with FaceID indefinitely.
Agreed, but longer than 4 hours. I normally sleep six and never have encountered this until iOS 16.0.2.

I don't have this problem and clearly it doesn't seem to be a problem affecting anyone but you because otherwise such major change would have been picked up by many people (e.g. my two iPhones do not have this issue).
It may be an issue with your phone and you might have to reset it.

The documentation is misleading as the 6.5 days is a hard limit, even if you unlocked four or less hours earlier. Been that way for ages with TouchID.

Sundays are my restart all devices day and I get the password prompt first thing in the morning Sunday.

Are there any corporate profiles installed (eg. Using company Exchange account): that might be putting a limit in place.
