Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I went to Hulu, it said I needed to change my password. I let macOS choose, hit log in, and it signed me in.

Then I went to System Settings, Passwords, and the password isn't updated.

Now I have to go through the whole process to change a forgotten password. Does this happen to everyone else? What a hassle.

Oh yeah, it happened to me multiple times, to the point where now I manually change my passwords in keychain, I don't trust the automatic change anymore. It's unfortunate that this feature is so unreliable, Apple should just disable it if it can't get it to work the right way

I don't know if it's Apple's or Hulu's side. But Hulu doesn't seem to give me an option about forgetting my password. Maybe I need to dig more. Right now I'm filling out a feedback for Apple.

To be clear, I don't use Hulu, I had this issue for a long time on other websites. I can't remember which ones, but it happened quite often

i've never had that fail on me (yet), when i let apple choose a password (i don't always do that, tho). and hulu has an option about 'forgetting password'; i no longer have hulu, but am sure it's there.

EDIT: it's right there, in the signin page:

hulu reset password

So when I went to sign out of Hulu, it finally prompted me to save my password. I did yes, but it wasn't the correct one. I found the forgot password sign in page.

Still a hassle for something that should work better than that. Hopefully others have submitted this bug request.

When dealing with passwords, it is always best to manually insert your own password and then save it to a password manager for safe keeping. If you want to save the password after the fact in Keychain, that will be better than what you went through. I had that same kind of thing happen to me 3 times in the past and stopped letting keychain have that kind of control. For the most part, I barely use Keychain.

I've had the same issue with Keychain not remembering a new password that it generated. Depending on the website sometimes you can click the little show password icon and copied to clipboard. If I can do that I paste it into a text file temporarily until I verify the updated password is saved.

The reason why I like using Keychain is because of the password format with the dashes. Randomly generated is always more secure than something you type even if you think you're randomly hitting keys. I keep all my passwords in 1Password but if I use it to generate a password it's not in the same format. Yes I know that doesn't really matter but it's me being OCD that everything has to be in the same format 🤣
