Hi
When I visit the App Store (on iPad) I’m informed that a couple of apps need updating. When I try this it says I have to sign in to iTunes (?) to download the update. I sign in & am told that: ‘Verification failed. Apple ID or password is incorrect’. But it’s not! It’s the correct Apple ID & password. Why is it asking me to sign into iTunes? I don’t have a password for iTunes, only my Apple ID.
If I visit appleid.apple.com on my PC (where it states: ‘On account for everything Apple. A single Apple ID & password gives you access to all Apple services’) I can sign in using the ID & password which the iTunes thing rejects!
What is occurring?

That's what it's asking for, your AppleID and password. You can verify that you're typing it correctly by trying to sign in to iCloud.com. If it works there, it will work in the App Store.

So why does it reject the ID & password that works fine when I visit appleid.apple.com on my PC?

Perhaps a few of your apps were purchased with a different account.
I only had the one account. I just checked on my iPhone (which is using the same Apple ID) & according to that the app has no update notice. Also I'm able to download other apps on that without having to sign in to iTunes.
Seems to be an iPad issue.

I considered doing that but it seems somewhat risky.
Suppose when I try to sign back in it rejects my Apple ID?

It won't. Why would it? You've verified it correct on other devices. But if you want an intermediate step, try rebooting the iPad. If that doesn't work, then I'd sign out and back in.

I tried a reboot to no effect.
However, I deleted the app on the iPad & re-installed it. Voila! It now works fine.
Put it down to a glitch.
Thanks for your help.

Delete & reinstall is, as you found, the solution. The reason for it is that the app WAS downloaded using a different Apple ID originally, as to how or why that’s beyond the scope of this explanation ;) “it just was.” Deleting & reinstalling puts it under your normal Apple ID.

Oh well, that must have been a while ago but what you say is logical.
Thanks to all for you assistance
