I would like to have my Mac automatically log out when it is inactive for a certain about of time. I have it set to fast user switching right now and try to remember to switch to the log in every time I get up but I would prefer not to need to do this.

I have searched the OS and not found a setting to take care of this.... is there a third party app at blacks out the computer and puts a password lock on it after a period of inactivity? Any help would be appreciated!

I would use the screensaver. You can specify that you need a password to wake up from the saver. Seems like that would fit your needs.

Or, just go into System Prefs->Security, and choose 'logout after xxx number of minutes'.

System Prefs -> Security -> Log out after ?? mins of inactivity OR require passwd to wake computer from sleep or screen saver
