Password Protection

I used to notice the password protection for waking from sleep or startup was in the screen saver area. I now notice that it is in security, but i checked it and manually put the computer to sleep to test it. But the screen went blank, and didn't prompt me with kinda of made me freak out because i thought it was related to file vault, which i DON'T want to turn on. Is that the right area for turning on the password? It doesn't prompt me to set one.

you do set it under the "Security" tab(?) in System Preferences. it won't ask you to set a password, as it uses that account's password. so you have to have one set.
