I just bought a new computer and I am trying to put a password on it at startup so the kids cant get on.My problem is when I log off and turn the computer back on it asks me for my password but if I hit back then restart the computer restarts and doesnt ask for a password any more and I m logged in.I am using osx leopard. This is my first mac.any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I presume that what could be happening is when you're logging in without your password then you're not logging in to your account (which should be by default an administrators'), but logging in to the Guest account.

Go to Sys pref., select Accounts, select Guest, then un-click all options for the Guest account. it should now show "Disabled".

I think he simply wants "Auto login" disabled:

System Prefs >> Accounts >> Login Options (click the lock on the left) >> select "Automatic login" pull-down menu: "Disabled"
