I have a Mac Mini Server. Back in the day, and I mean back in the day when I bought my first Titanium Powerbook, they were not shipping with cd burners. Only cd/dvd roms.
So Apple had some deal with SmartDisk to send out firewire CD burners. It is a really handy device, and I tinkered with it last year and dropped in various DVD burners from old iBooks and Powerbooks that worked quite well in this SmartDisk enclosure (even though it housed a tray loading cd burner, it houses slot loading slim dvd burners very well)..
So With the new mac mini server, I needed an optical drive. I saw a new Panasonic Matshita UJ 225 for sale and bought, it knowing full well I would not be able to play blu rays on OSX, but thought it should be fine for cds and dvds.
No go.
My Mac Mini recognizes the old CD CDRW firewire device fine (helped me set up my HP printer with its CD software) but will not recognize the Blu Ray drive with DVDs.
In fact I think it froze my system.
Is there some firmware fix for this? I don't care about blu ray, I just want to play/burn DVDs/CDs on this in OSX.
I don't have Windows and not interested, so that's moot.
Any help would be appreciated.
