An inevitably huge majority of people, want touch screen. ;)

I'd much rather have:
a better DAC
a better amp
larger capacity
and better battery life

Than some gimicky and limited touchscreen.
Using a touch screen whilst the iPod is in your pocket could prove tricky.

I agree, although id also like an optical out built into the jack like on my MBP. Then i could use my own DAC/amp when i wanted to. But me thinks this is extremely wishful thinking.
 
I guess that ends the discussion whether or not there will be a touch screen iPod. Looking at the diagrams the whole user interface is better than the one of the iPhone and that might be an indication that the iPod won't be in the shadow of the iPhone when it comes to music and video playback.

Hopefully Apple will upgrade the amplifier too because the iPods don't offer satisfying bas.

As for those who don't want a touch screen they will always be able to picky up a G5.5 on the second hand market or buy a 16GB iPod Nano which will be available shortly.
