I have a program that installs printers and it works just fine with lpadmin..... however the university I work for wants to switch to the generic postscript printer driver instead of installing another driver (less invasive they feel).

I can not find out where OS X houses the .gz or .ppd for the "Generic PostScript Printer". Where is it?

On my system (10.7.2) I found it at /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/PrintCore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Generic.ppd

Spotlight search from within a Finder window, btw, worked well. Added the option to include System Files, searched for the word generic and extension ppd.
