Hello, if anyone here has played Path of Exile on macOS and could help me with some options that would be great.

So these are my problems - it seems that the game is using my macbook pro 15 inch INTEGRATED graphics instead of the dedicated GPU in my macbook pro. The problem is that the in game options don't seem to mention//give me any choice to choose my dedicated GPU.

The other problem is there is no option to set "target FPS"

Does anyone know what to do? My game says solid 30FPS when I limit it to 30 but it stutters a lot and this is likely because it's using my integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU. Please help.

The game is still in development and lots of Mac users cannot even get it to install so I doubt
that you will get a reply.

I have a similar issue. I have an iMac with a Radeon 580X, no dedicated external card, but this should be more than enough to run the game smoothly, it did just fine in Bootcamp. And it does go almost 60 FPS constantly, however, it keeps choking every few seconds, like a small lag, with the game then going faster for a bit to catch up. I don't think that it's because the video performance, as I see no significant frame rate drops, also graphic settings do not seem to influence this in any way, the average frame rate increases or lowers dependent on the settings but the frequency of those lags/speedups remains the same.

Thing is, I am not sure if this is because of the game being in Beta for the mac, or it's a network communication issue, or it really is a graphical issue... Would be nice to know if anyone has the game running smoothly, or its a general issue.

you mean your game is "chugging"?

What I would try is, in the Path of Exile game client turn your network mode preference to "Predictive" instead of Auto or LockStep and also try turning "engine multithreading" off. My 2017 15'' mac pro can handle the game with a single core at least the parts I am currently playing. Let me know if that helps. Also, in your macbook settings make sure "Automatic graphics switching" on your macOS settings is turned ON; the game does NOT recognize our dedicated GPU's no matter what I do I can't get it to use thee dGPU so I believe when you have your mac set to "always use dGPU" I believe the game is constantly trying to "search" for the dGPU but is failing -- leading your CPU's and or GPU's to overwork.

I currently have the game running smoothly so I believe that you will be able to get the same results. OH and one other thing!

Make sure you go into steam, second-click/right-click Path of Exile and go to properties, go to the game file and second-click/right-click the PathofExileClient and click "Get info" in the tab that opens toggle the "Open in Low Resolution mode" on. This will indeed make your game look worse but it will help with the overall fluid gameplay. I also recommend switching your macOS "scaled resolution" to no higher than 1440x900x2 (i.e. don't pick the 1920x1200 or ther 1650x1050 etc try a lower scaled resolution -- EDIT you may be able to smoothly get 1650x1050x2 scaled resolution working since your macbook is a bit newer give it a shot and see)

I imagine these issues are due to the mac client being almost a "open beta". When they released the beta in september it never really got out all the kinks before they wanted to release it with their "Heist" update in october or so. Things like not being able to switch resolution in game, or pick your GPU in game or at all. Things like the macOS error sound when you press tab, delete, esc, arrow keys. These are things that will be patched in time I am certain. I am certain because GGG the maker of Path of Exile went through all this work for over a year if I recall correctly just to port the game for macOS users. Since they went through all that trouble I believe they'll take the time to polish it as well in the coming weeks/months.

I'm pretty sure it's not called chugging :p But I think you got the point, it's sort of like a "rubber banding" effect, the game freezes for a very short time, then everything goes fast for a second to catch up (to where it should have been if it had not froze).

The simple switch of the network mode to "predictive" completely fixed this, nothing else needed and it runs perfectly smooth. Can't believe I did not think of that, especially since I messed with that setting a few leagues back when I was playing under bootcamp. Thanks a lot!!

But I also think that this predictive mode (from what I remember) is making it so that your position and actions you see on the screen are not perfectly in sync with the server, it allows some de-sync in order to improve fluidity. Anyway, I am extremely happy I no longer need bootcamp to play this!

some people say "USE LOCKSTEP ALWAYS" and others say "TRY PREDICTIVE MODE IT ROCKS" so .. Eh, use whichever works best for you.
