For those who are getting their first Apple Watch, make sure your iPhone is prepared ahead of time. If you know that your AW is on wOS4, then make sure your iPhone is updated to iOS11, otherwise it won't pair. So you'll be wasting time updating your iPhone before you can pair your AW.

Long story short... I had an Apple Watch Series 0 back when it launched in 2015 but for various reasons got rid of it after only a few months. Decided this fall to get my wife a AW SS Series 3 for Christmas and in the process of researching it realized I wanted one too, so I later picked up a SBSS Series 3 for myself. I don't want to short change my wife's excitement at an AW by giving the impression I only got her one because "look here is mine too!" when nothing could be further from the truth so I decided I'll open / start using mine to kick off another usual round of fitness resolutions on Jan 1 when my wife will have had time to enjoy being the only one with a cool new watch (among other things) this holiday.

Ironically, it's likely she wouldn't care at all if I just revealed I had one too on Christmas but I'd care.
