How does this work? I have an ultra and by far my most important use of it is for running. I make heavy use of the action button for pause/resume and to create a custom split or advance to the next custom interval. How does this work on non AWU watches? Are there button combos or do you need to tap at the screen, which is very difficult while running or sweaty. Thanks.

It's always been the case that pressing two buttons at once pauses a workout. For the Ultra it's easier, as there is the extra action button (so you can squeeze the action and side buttons at the same time), but a press of the side button and the crown at the same time pauses (and then unpauses) a workout on a non-Ultra watch. As far as I remember it always has.

It's been a while since I did an interval workout on the watch - and I never advanced an interval, I always completed them - so I don't know about that.

Double-tapping the display creates a new workout segment though, and has for longer than the Ultra has been around.

I think double tapping the display will do it. Some times during the long sleeve season my display is water locked to ignore unintended taps front sleeves so the button is super nice. Love it

I used to think that double tapping skipped to the next interval. Tried to do a guided swimming workout and it didn’t work. Don’t know what to do in this case with the water lock. I programmed all drills intervals as time intervals, so I simply had to wait for the interval to end. Also length intervals worked fine, just always had to wait around 7 seconds at the end of the lap to see the laps done.

When the water lock is on, the tabs are ignored

Tried some “dry” test with water lock on and it seems to work, only double tapping does not go to next interval but scrolls screen (same thing you can do with the crown).

So I don’t see a way to configure double tap in standard training app. Maybe with good third party apps like yourace (for running) workoutdoors or swim.com (for swimming) it is possible.

Anyway by scrolling the crown or double tapping you can see next step before it starts.
